  • This short break takes you through a million years of the Australian outback – from secret Carnarvon sites to the agri-entrepreneurs of present-day Roma. Join us for fascinating discoveries of little known places and deeper insights into both the human and natural history of our region.

From the sandalwood smoke of a Welcome to Country, to the spectacular sandstone formations of the Carnarvon Ranges, from homestead gardens to the taste of local produce, you’ll experience all the best of our region.

Here, where human history and remote bushland meet, you’ll walk in the footsteps of pioneer explorers, discover Indigenous cultural sites, marvel at ancient cycad groves, delve into early settler history and discover a welcoming outback town with plenty to share.

This 3-day, 2-night, small-group holiday includes all your accommodation and two of Boobook Explore’s most popular tours, including the acclaimed Lost World Carnarvons with its exclusive tour access to remote Wallaroo private property, which hides a wonderland of diverse native bush, rare fauna and Indigenous rock art.

Closer to Roma, you’ll visit historic Mt Abundance with its connection to early European explorers. Here you’ll picnic amongst native bottle brushes and explore a traditional homestead garden.

In the town itself there’s plenty more to the story – heritage buildings, the famous saleyards and bush gardens plus the chance to savour oranges from a local orange orchard and gin from the award-winning Western Queensland Spirit.

Your local guides have exceptional insights into both local industry and the natural geology and ecosystems of the region. They will help you understand the interconnectedness of nature and human activity – and how both can thrive if we respect our precious land and natural resources.
