Meet the MacDonnell’s from “Wallaroo” – The Biggest Billy Tea

4 people resting

Justin and Pauline MacDonnell and their young family are the owners of “Wallaroo”, a 71,000 acre cattle station nestled in the Carnarvon Ranges in Outback Queensland.  In between tours with their partner, Boobook Explore and working on the farm, the MacDonnell’s find time to have fun with neighbours and to support difference-making charities. Here’s what Pauline had to say about an event they hosted at their property recently:

“Recently we held the Biggest Morning Tea – renamed the Biggest Billy Tea. About forty friends from the surrounding district (plus a swag load of kids), all traveling over an hour, came along to help raise some much needed funds towards cancer research.   Can I just say what a pleasure it is to host a community function when everyone who comes along brings a plate of something delicious to share and everyone else washes up?!  The Discovery Centre makes hosting a function so much easier and we are so lucky to have it here at Wallaroo.

And what a fun day we had! There were some great games, some traditional and some with a Wallaroo twist.  Jumjudi Bumgrub races, poddy calf roulette, local leaf identification, and to top it off – the best egg sandwich relay!  I’m going to let your imagination run wild by not explaining how each game worked – but it’s safe to say we had a good laugh and raised over a $1000 in the process.

Thank you again to everyone who brought along delicious treats and soup for lunch.  I love living where we live, our neighbours might be an hour away, but it’s still a wonderful community which comes together for a laugh and a cup of tea whenever someone offers to boil the billy.”

This sounds like so much fun, we’d love to participate in some of these games with the MacDonnell’s. Outback Queensland really is an experience to add to your travel log. Not to mention, you’ll have some intriguing stories to tell your mates.
